Accepted Items (No Fee)

Open Wednesdays (1 to 6:30 p.m.) and Saturdays (7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and closed on Monroe County government-observed holidays. Open to Monroe County households only (no businesses, not-for-profits, home offices, out-of-county households, etc.). Items should be separated into the below categories in your vehicle prior to arrival and--except for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)--residents are responsible for removing items from their vehicles. 

  • Household Hazardous Waste (chemicals, paints, fuel, etc.) -- APPOINTMENT REQUIRED -- click here to schedule or call 753-7600 (Option #3) 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. M-F (Appointments are only required for HHW items. No appointment necessary for any of the below accepted items.)
  • Electronic Waste (cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and monitors see Fee Items below) 
  • Household 'Curbside' Recyclables (single-stream: no need to separate paper from containers)
    • All Clean Paper, Flattened Cardboard, Books, Magazines, etc.
      • Shredded Paper (bagged separately)
    • Empty and Rinsed Plastic, Metal and Glass Containers (lids attached, metal pots, pans and foilware too)
  • Rechargeable or Button Batteries (household alkaline batteries are NOT accepted)
  • Pharmaceutical Waste (medications) and Empty Rx Bottles (labels OK)
  • Document Destruction (shredded off-site, unsecure)
  • Scrap Metal -- from small nails to large appliances (items containing refrigerant, see Fee Items below)
  • Aluminum Can Pop-Tops (to benefit Ronald McDonald House)
  • Propane Tanks (1 & 20 lbs. only) and Small Helium Tanks -- no other tanks accepted 
  • Bulky Plastic Items (clean and rigid, i.e. lawn furniture, large plastic toys -- no pool covers/liners, garden hose, tarp, etc.)
  • Plastic Bags and Product Wrap (MUST be clean and dry -- no frozen food bags, mylar bags, chemical/mulch/feed/soil bags)
  • Clean #6 Styrofoam Packing (no takeout clamshells, cups, meat trays, egg cartons, etc.)
  • Cooking Oil/Grease
  • Fluorescent Lights (compact fluorescents can also be brought to local home improvement stores)
  • Sharps & Syringes
  • Clothing (Goodwill donation)
  • Cell Phones (to benefit Cell Phones for Soldiers)
  • Printer Cartridges
  • Flags (U.S.)
  • Compost Give-Back (not for use in vegetable/herb gardens)

Accepted Fee Items

The following items require a fee for proper disposal (payment by credit or debit card only):

  • Appliances Containing Refrigerant (dehumidifiers, air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, water coolers, etc.) -- $15 each
  • Passenger Vehicle Tires (on or off rims) -- $3 each
  • Picture Tube (Cathode Ray Tube) TVs and Computer Monitors -- $10 each -- broken tubes not accepted
