Appliances containing refrigerant (i.e. Freon) are accepted at the ecopark during any hours of operation. FEE APPLIES (credit/debit card only).
Major household appliances containing refrigerant include:
- Air Conditioners
- Water Coolers
For safety and to reduce environmental damage, refrigerant must be removed these appliances prior to recycling. Residents cannot properly accomplish this. A certified professional using proper equipment tags the appliance as decommissioned and ready for recycling---this service has an associated fee. Refrigerant-containing appliances can be recycled at the ecopark--FEE APPLIES (credit/debit card only). $15 per item.
When purchasing a new appliance, ask if the retailer provides "haul away service" for the appliance that is being replaced. In some instances, this may be free or cheaper than recycling it on your own.
RG&E currently offers a service to their customers to pickup and recycle old refrigerators and freezers in working condition (minimum of 10 cubic yards in size). RG&E will have the item picked up for free and pay their customer $30 for the item. Click here for details.
