Household alkaline or zinc batteries may be disposed of in the regular trash. These batteries are not accepted at the ecopark.
Recycling Alkaline Batteries: Alpco Recycling offers free household alkaline battery recycling. Waste Management, Inc. offers a "Think Green From Home Dry Cell Battery Recycling Kit" for the recycling of certain alkaline batteries for a fee--button and rechargeable batteries are also accepted. General Household Battery Information: Household batteries include typical disposable alkaline batteries and batteries that must be recycled including: rechargeable batteries (found in cell phones, laptops, etc.); button batteries (found in watches, hearing aids, etc.); and, sealed lead (found in large children's toys).
Note: Beginning 12/5/11, The NYS Rechargeable Battery Recycling Act makes it illegal for NYS residents to knowingly dispose of certain rechargeable, lithium ion, button and sealed lead batteries in the regular trash. See www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/72065.html for details.
