Although it is a #6 plastic, "expanded" polystyrene (trade name Styrofoam) is NOT accepted in the curbside recycling program. Non-expanded polystyrene (coffee cup lids, CD cases, etc.) IS accepted curbside.
Styrofoam meat trays, egg cartons, coffee cups, takeout containers or other small post-consumer items have no local recycling option and should be placed in your trash. However, clean, white packing Styrofoam (like appliance or electronic component packaging) is accepted for recycling at the ecopark (#6 only). Clean, white packing peanuts (contained in plastic bags) will also be accepted (see below for other colors). The Styrofoam must not be dirty, any color but white or have any tape or stickers attached.
See other Styrofoam reuse/recycling options below:
Clean Styrofoam Packing Peanuts: Call your local mailing/packing store for reuse information--most will gladly accept any color.
