Town and City Assessment Dates

Monroe County Towns: 2016 Dates

Valuation Date: July 1st

In each municipality, property is assessed based upon what its market value would have been on this date given its condition on taxable status date. For example, for the Final Assessment Roll upcoming in 2016 the valuation date will be July 1, 2015.

Taxable Status/Exemption Filing Date: March 1st

The assessment reflects the ownership and physical condition of the property as of this date. In addition, exemption applications must be filed by this date.  For the 2016 Tentative Assessment Roll the date is March 1, 2016.

Tentative Assessment Roll: May 1st

The assessor completes, certifies and files a roll containing proposed assessed values for each property in the assessing unit. For the 2016 Tentative Assessment Roll, the Tentative Roll Date is May 1, 2016.

Grievance Day Date: May 24th

Board of Assessment Review meets to hear assessment complaints. Last day property owners may file a formal complaint seeking reduction in their tentative assessments. This is always the fourth Tuesday in the month of May.  For the 2016 Assessment Roll, Grievance Day is May 24, 2016.

Final Assessment Roll Date: July 1st

The assessor signs and files a roll that contains the final assessments, including all changes. The 2016 Final Assessment Roll Date is July 1, 2016.

City of Rochester: 2016 Dates

Valuation Date: February 1st

In the City of Rochester, property is assessed based upon what its market value would have been on this date given its condition on taxable status date. For example, for the Final Assessment Roll upcoming in 2016 the valuation date will be February 1, 2016.

Taxable Status/Exemption Filing Date: February 1st

The assessment reflects the ownership and physical condition of the property as of this date. In addition, exemption applications must be filed by this date. For the 2016 Assessment Roll, Taxable Status date is February 1, 2016.

Tentative Assessment Roll: March 1st

The assessor completes, certifies and files a roll containing proposed assessed values for each property in the assessing unit. For the 2016 Tentative Assessment Roll, the Tentative Roll Date is March 1, 2016.

Grievance Day Date: March 18th

Board of Assessment Review meets to hear assessment complaints. Last day property owners may file a formal complaint seeking reduction in their tentative assessments. This is always the third Tuesday in the month of March.  For the 2016 Assessment Roll, Grievance Day is March 15, 2016.
