The Division of Engineering provides professional engineering and construction services to county departments (e.g., Transportation, Parks, Aviation, MCC, Sheriff, Facilities, Community Hospital, and Pure Waters) that require technical support for capital planning, engineering design, and construction management. Projects include building renovations and construction; environmental assessments; and roadway, bridge, sewer, treatment plant process, pump station, park, jail, courtroom, and zoo improvements.

The Division is also responsible for overseeing all real estate functions within the county including leasing of county-owned/required space and facilities, lease management, acquisition and disposition of real estate, open space acquisition, easements, right-of-way, options, licenses and permits. Topographic surveys are also conducted and coordinated by the Division.

In addition, the Division enforces the NYS Unified Building Code, issues demolition and building permits and certificates of occupancy, and manages ADA accessibility compliance for over 400 County owned and leased facilities.

Green Building Policy

Monroe County's Green Building Policy was adopted in 2008 and requires all internal County new construction and major renovation projects of more than 5,000 square feet to incorporate sustainble design and evaluate potential for the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Monroe County currently has 9 LEED Certified Buildings including:

  • 1 Platinum
  • 5 Gold
  • 2 Silver
  • 1 Certified

The County's green infrastructure projects include rainwater harvest and recycling systems, green roofs, porous pavement projects, stream buffer restoration projecs with native plantings, and bioretention projects.
