Recycling Outreach Programs

Monroe County has developed a calendar of events attended by Environmental Educators and recycling education programs that are offered on an annual basis including:

  • Monroe County Conservation Field Day
  • WM Scout Day and Open House
  • Community festivals including the Lilac Festival and the Hilton Apple Festival
  • Farmers Markets and other local events

Environmental Educators also accommodate presentation and education events as requested. Email [email protected] to request a presenation or recycling program. 

Recycling Patch for Scouts and Youth Groups

Monroe County has created a recycling patch program as an incentive for young people to get more involved with local recycling. Individuals at any age can improve the quality of our environment by putting into practice “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” and by participating in our Monroe County Solid Waste Management Programs. The patch can be earned by completing a number of requirements listed in the criteria below. The suggested requirements include surveying neighborhood recycling boxes, starting a home composting project, hosting a clothing drive, promoting an electronic waste or Household Hazardous Waste collection, researching the life cycle of a product’s packaging, or becoming an America Recycles mentor for your school. Participants are also encouraged to develop a recycling idea of their own. The patch program is available to scouting and youth groups.   • Recycling Explorer interactive tool from "I want to be recycled" to learn what and how to recycle. (All ages)
  • RecycleMania college and university recycling competition 
  • EPA's Planet Protector serires encourages students to improve the world around them by making less trash. They will also help other people learn to reduce, reuse, and recycle (Grades K-5)
