Nurse-Family Partnership is a voluntary program for women who are having their first baby. Specially trained nurses will visit in your home throughout your pregnancy and continue to visit until your baby is 2-years old.

Any woman who is pregnant with her first child and meets income requirements can enroll. Self-referral is welcome. Many working families qualify. Individuals who participate in other programs, such as food stamps, Medicaid, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), may automatically be income-eligible.

Women are encouraged to enroll early in their pregnancy.  They must enroll before the 28th week of pregnancy in order to be eligible for the program.

There is no charge for this program.

Nurses will visit every week for the first month after you enroll, and for six weeks after your baby’s birth. Otherwise, visits are scheduled every two weeks during business hours, but flexible and less frequent visits may be scheduled as needed.

The nurse will help you:

  • Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby
  • Prepare for labor and delivery and find the things you need for your baby
  • Learn how to be a good parent
  • Learn how to encourage normal growth and development in your child
  • Build a strong network of support for you and your baby
  • Make your home a safe place to live and play
  • Get referrals for healthcare, childcare, job training and other support services
  • Find ways to continue your education and to develop job skills
  • Set goals for your future and help you reach them

For more information, or to make a referral, call: (585) 753-BABY (753-2229).  You may also visit the national web site to learn more about the NFP program.
