Pest Management Brochure

The property owner is responsible for controlling rodent infestations on their own property. In some cases, this may require hiring a professional extermination service to mitigate the infestation. Pesticides can be applied on a limited basis for residential properties as determined to be appropriate at the discretion of the Department's Housing and General Sanitation staff. The Monroe County Department of Public Health does not apply pesticides for commercial properties or rental properties. On site evaluation and guidance are provided to all properties with pest management needs.

Bed Bugs

The common bed bug (Cimex lectularius) has long been a pest – feeding on blood, causing itchy bites and generally irritating their human hosts. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) all consider bed bugs a public health pest. However, unlike most public health pests, bed bugs are not known to transmit or spread disease.

They can, however, cause other public health issues, so it’s important to pay close attention to preventing and controlling bed bugs.

Getting rid of a bed bug infestation is not easy, but there are steps you can take to control the problem. There are also steps you can take to avoid bringing bed bugs home. For additional information please utilize the information provided below.
